The late, great art and culture critic, Robert Hughes, was the Opening
General Session speaker on June 15, 2002 in Atlanta. His talk, months
after the September 11 attacks continues to resonate. ALA President
John W. Berry in 2002 posts this video, with permission, as a tribute
to our friend and colleague. 'Free Libraries Free Society' was the
title of the talk.
